January 2021 Female Athlete of the Month- Beth Masters

Name: Beth Masters

Where did you grow up? – Roanoke, Virginia

When did you become a member of the Cornerstone Community? – June 2019

What do you do when you are not at Cornerstone (occupation, hobbies, etc.) – listen to podcasts, coffee, tea, family time, learning about all things clean living.

What is your favorite workout movement? Power Cleans because I remember where I started….with the empty 15lb training bar…determined to graduate to the #35lb bar. And over the years I’ve gotten to a PR of #105. Each time I pick up the barbell, I feel a ton of pride in how far I’ve come since my early CrossFit days. It is the one move that always reminds me of my progress.

What is your least favorite movement your Coach makes you do? Wall Balls!!!

What is your favorite accomplishment since becoming a part of Cornerstone? Getting over my fear of box jumping onto the 20” box and climbing to the top of the training rope.

What is something about yourself that we might not know? I was an elementary school teacher in Baltimore County Public Schools. I have lived in 3 different states. We moved here to Cincinnati from Baltimore, Maryland in June 2019.

What advice would you give to someone just getting started at Cornerstone? Trust the process, stay consistent and enter your workout results into SugarWod. I love looking back at movements and WODs to compare progress…to see times improve and weights increase. If I wasn’t recording my results, I would miss out on a lot of opportunities to leave the gym feeling loads of pride in my growth.

What goals do you have for the rest of 2020? As 2020 ends and 2021 begins, my fitness goals include sticking to the New Year’s Challenge with Coach Brandon.

Fill in the blank: I’m #allin Cornerstone because I love the welcoming, inclusive community of like minded people and coaches who encourage me to push myself beyond what I often think I can do myself.
